Knygos aprašymas Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis - the great Lithuanian artist in music, painting and word, has so far been known only to the elite of world culture. Many outstanding personalities - from Igor Stravinsky and Wasily Kandinsky to Jacques Lipschitz and Olivier Messiaen - were interested in his work, but due to the fact that the author lived far from the centres of world culture (at that time Lithuania and Poland were on the outskirts of the Russian Empire), and later, because of the long years of Soviet occupation, it could not gain broad fame. The album is compiled by Birute Verkelyte - Federavičiene, the curator of the State M. K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art in Kaunas. She selected the paintings, extracts from letters, literary works and reminiscences of the painter\'s contemporaries for publication, prepared the catalogue of paintings and the history of their exhibiting. Vytautas Landsbergis, the author of the introductory article, is the most outstanding researcher into Čiurlionis\' artistic, musical and literary legacy. Director of the State M. K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art Osvaldas Daugelis writes about fate of Čiurlionis\' paintings after his death, and the art critic Rasa Andriušyte discusses the painter\'s works in the context of early 20th century art. The chronology of events in Čiurlionis\' life has been compiled by Nijole Adomavičiene.
